SafeXtend: Delivering Governmental and Societal Impacts

Mon, 02 December, 2024

Through its innovative application of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR), in the context of a new training model for the construction industry, SafeXtend is forecast to deliver a number of positive impacts for the UK Government and wider society worldwide.

Calculations based on published statistics indicate that SafeXtend could:

  • Lead to the funding of 5,000-10,000 new apprenticeships annually, due to envisaged cost savings when using the SafeXend platform of 25-50% per worker trained.
  • Potentially reduce Social Services and NHS costs by £500 million per year, supporting health and safety objectives, as a result of immersive, VR training leading to lower injury rates of 10-20% on construction sites.

The UK Office for National Statistics has identified that the national shortage of skilled workers has nearly doubled since 2019, meanwhile global investment in architecture, engineering, and construction tech grew to $50 billion between 2020 and 2022.

From a global perspective, the SafeXtend platform’s personalised AI training method is projected to reduce average learning times by 35% according to beta tests, potentially freeing up over 100 million worker hours annually for additional projects.

Societally, SafeXtend's scalable, mobile-first solution is expected to help upskill some 45,000 new workers entering the construction industry in the UK by 2030, while simultaneously improving health and safety. This will be critical as UN Habitat has forecast a shortage of 2 billion people living in inadequate housing by 2030 without workforce growth.

Ultimately, the societal impacts of SafeXtend will be wide-ranging, contributing to improved productivity in the construction industry, and the enhancement of people’s quality of life through new skills, education and economic opportunities.
