Meet SafeXtend Consortium Partner: Brunel University London

Mon, 20 January, 2025

Brunel University London has been highly successful in creating an industrial innovation research resource, namely the Brunel Innovation Centre (BIC), which it established in 2009 in partnership with TWI Ltd. BIC sits between the knowledge base and industry, offering high quality research in an innovative environment, supporting like-minded partners to transfer academic research into industrial applications. The centre pursues projects and initiatives that span national and international platforms, including Innovate UK, the EU and EPSRC. It has created a portfolio of over 60 collaborative research and development (R&D) projects in line with its multinational, interdisciplinary vision, working with many different consortiums of SMEs, RTOs and other universities.

BIC has a wide range of knowledge and expertise in research areas including power ultrasonics, smart non-destructive testing (NDT), hard- and software development, active structural health and condition monitoring, signal and image processing, numerical modelling, sensor development, electronics, structural integrity of offshore assets, fatigue and fracture analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

On SafeXtend, BIC will focus on gathering and analysing data to develop AI models that autonomously reconstruct environments from scans, synthesize voices, and personalise scenarios and simulations based on user input. Real-world data will be used to understand requirements, continuously testing and refining the application of AI within the platform.
